Five individuals were short listed for this award, having impressed the judges with their commitment to clients, innovative ways of working and persuasive case studies but Cath Townley inspired them the most.

Cath was instrumental during 2010 in furthering the development of Corpore's condition management programme to assist clients with a much wider range of physical and mental health problems in order to establish a pathway back to work. Her major concern lay with those unemployed for more than six months, who were suffering from moderate to severe anxiety, depression and low self-esteem.

However, her 18-years' nursing experience as well as counselling and stress management diplomas enabled her to quickly and expertly apply all that she had learnt in helping her individual clients achieve outcomes many would have thought impossible.

Put simply, the case study chosen to illustrate Cath's depth or experience, unquestionable skills, commitment to the highest standards of care and her genuine ability to utterly transform the lives of those she works with was exceptional.

Her client had been housebound for two years, suffering from upper limb pain and a diminished range of movement that had subsequently led to fatigue, anger, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideations. But with Cath's care, help, wide-ranging techniques and empathetic expertise, the same client completed the CMP, identified skills she had to assist others with similar issues and took the first steps towards employment as a telephone support counsellor. A remarkable story.
