Walk your way to optimum health #NationalWalkingMonth

After sustaining an injury in a minor or major accident, physical rehabilitation is vital to achieving optimum recovery – and a regular exercise routine is one of the best ways to do this.

Walking is one of the easiest activities to work into your daily routine, and this month, it’s National Walking Month, so it’s the perfect time to get started. Walking for as little as 10 minutes per day can make a big difference to your body, but if you still need some motivation to get up and get walking, here are some key benefits:

  • Walking strengthens bones and improves balance, core and confidence
  • Walking can increase muscle strength, endurance and restore movement to your joints
  • It’s good for your mind as well as your body as it retrains cognitive functions
  • Walking can reduce or eliminate knee pain, hip pain and arthritis-related pain as well as improve blood circulation, especially after surgery

If you don’t think you have time to walk don’t worry, it can easily fit into your daily routine! Check out some of our tops tips below.

Top tips for increasing your steps:

  • Leave your car at home and walk to your local shops
  • Start off with intervals and slowly increase the amount of time you are active
  • Get off a bus stop or two earlier and walk the rest of the way home
  • Need a lift? Use the stairs instead!
  • Join a walking group in your local area; it’s a great way to make new friends!
