The Key Pillars of Multi-Trauma Case Management

The Key Pillars of Multi-Trauma Case Management

Navigating the complexities of a multi-trauma accident requires professional support. That’s why Corporé has a dedicated multi-trauma case management service. Here, we discover the key characteristics of this unique service.

Rehabilitation case management is an effective independent process that ensures optimum, appropriate support is provided following a personal injury.

This is particularly essential for cases where multiple injuries have been sustained. In these complex cases, it’s crucial that professional support is provided by an independent clinical specialist, able to understand and coordinate the most appropriate care at optimal times in rehabilitation to ensure the best possible recovery can be achieved.

Multi-Trauma Case Management

Multi-trauma accidents involve a combination of injuries that affect different parts of the body (e.g., orthopaedic, neurological, abdominal, etc.). Effective case management requires expertise in managing the complexities of these diverse injuries. It should be coordinated by professionals who have obtained extensive clinical knowledge, experience supporting individuals following a range of accidents, and the ability to understand and seek the best possible treatments for multiple injuries.

Corporé’s Case Managers have an excellent understanding of not just how to treat a range of injuries, but also how to access the best possible support in a timely manner, using essential techniques to achieve optimum outcomes in multi-trauma case management.

The Pillars of Effective Multi-Trauma Case Management

Assessment and Planning

Initial Needs Assessments (INA’s) are essential to multi-trauma case management, accurately identifying the extent of a person’s injuries and determining the support they need.

These assessments provide enough detail to recommend instructing insurer and claimant solicitors on the best treatment options, initiating the start of the rehabilitation process.

INA’s take place in an injured client’s home, usually with their close family or friends present, to determine current living conditions and any barriers to recovery. This not only provides a more honest report of a client’s injuries but also considers wider concerns, such as anxiety from a family member or financial worries, that may affect the development of rehabilitation.

From this information, and with instructing insurer and claimant solicitor permission, bespoke rehabilitation plans are generated, considering an injured client’s stepped care goals and reflecting their specific medical, emotional, social, and functional needs.

The INA is then used as a comparison in all future evaluations to determine a client’s rehabilitation progress and to determine their psychological wellbeing and functional capabilities, highlighting any changes or issues affecting optimum recovery.

From this information, our Case Managers can amend rehabilitation plans, change the direction or amplify an approach to support a client’s progress whilst providing clear and detailed explanations of any changes to instructing parties.

Timely Support

When clients have sustained multiple injuries, timely support is not just about providing care quickly but also about providing it in the most effective and coordinated way.

Early intervention is essential to accessing appropriate care quickly to avoid detrimental long-term issues that will amplify a claim, but providing treatment too hurriedly in the rehabilitation process could cause lasting damage.

Our case management team of over 60 qualified Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists have developed their knowledge from years in both private and statutory sectors. They’ve developed experience in areas such as acquired brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputation and orthopaedic injuries and understand when best to intervene with different treatment options in rehabilitation.

Their clinical understanding enables them to seamlessly transition clients between different levels of care dependent on progress and the stage of rehabilitation to ensure all injuries are treated safely and at the right time for the injured client.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

In any multi-trauma case, Case Managers will coordinate a wide range of professionals, including different clinical specialists in the fields of both physical and psychological health, community help, as well as the instructing parties, injured clients and their families to provide appropriate support. This means that a collaborative and communicative approach is essential.

This collaboration is established with regular meetings, evaluation reports and continuous communication from the Case Manager to every member of the multidisciplinary team to assess, monitor, evaluate and share findings and perspectives of rehabilitation.

Through open collaboration, our Case Managers can effectively coordinate, monitor and amend rehabilitation whilst scheduling the most appropriate support at the right time in the process. This not only gives clear insight into developments in rehabilitation but means that holistic, clinically stringent support is provided from the very beginning of rehabilitation through to discharge to achieve the best possible outcomes for the Injured Party.

Multi-trauma case management is an intricate and multifaceted process that demands a client-centred approach, a high level of coordination, and a long-term perspective. It’s about providing the right care at the right time and working as a team to deliver holistic support that achieves lasting optimum results for the Injured Party and the personal injury claim.
